Ice

My husband carries a cooler with him at all times with his sodas and water inside.  We used to spend probably $20-$25/month in ice keeping his lunches and drinks cool.  Last year, we purchased 4 large ice packs.  He keeps two in his cooler for the day and the next day switches out two in the freezer for two thawed ice packs from the night before.  This has saved us between $240-$300 a year!  That’s exciting!

Have a great weekend!

Mom’s Best Cereal

This week we bought 20 boxes of Mom’s Best Cereal!  I’ve seen it sell between $3 and $5 depending on where you shop.  I paid at Kroger this week…..$20 for all!!  We don’t do much cereal but we are about to go on a beach trip and what an easy breakfast for our crowd.  You can also find great deals on noodles this week at Kroger.  I bought 10 boxes of Ronzoni healthy varieties of noodles and paid….(drum roll, please)….$1.50.

It’s great to find super deals but even better when they are healthy options.  Have fun finding deals this week!

Easter Clothes

To save money for our Resurrection Day celebration, I sewed my girls’ dresses.  I didn’t need a pattern so that saved $2-$10 and I got the very expensive fabric for 50% off.  It still was about $7 a dress which is a bit high for homemade but we love them.   Here’s a picture of our creation.  Happy Resurrection Day!  The Lord, He is Alive!!

Free Toothbrushes, toothpaste and Pads – WHAT!!

When I first started getting more into couponing, I read where folks never pay for toothpaste and little for other toiletries but couldn’t quite figure it out.  However, it’s true.  I went to Rite Aid yesterday and bought 2 bottles of Listerine on sale and some Tena Serinity pads.  I used 2 $1 coupons from the newspaper for the Listerine and a $2 off the pads coupon that was printable from southernsavers.com in their rite aid area.  Used the $1 rite aid coupons also.  Altogether it was $18 then take away $4 off which made it $14.  I received $2 back to use on my next trip which makes it $12.  Then I went home and did the $9.99 rebate and ended up getting $18 of goodies for $2!!

Then I went to CVS and bought 2 Oral B toothbrushes for $2.99 each.  Used my B1G1 free coupon and a $2 off coupon.  Paid .99 for my purchase and received $1.98 back to use next time.  Soo they paid me to buy their toothbrushes.   Cool!

While I was out today, I went to Walgreens.  I bought their Colgate Max toothpaste for $2.99 and some Goodies ponytails that were on sale for $1.50 but actually rang up for .75!  I got back $2.99 for my purchase so ended up spending less than a buck for toothpaste and 24 ponytails.

It can be done however, it takes a bit of time.  I don’t have lots of extra time so I “cheat” and use southernsavers.com to show me all the deals that are going on and exactly what coupons to use to get things cheap to free.   The other great site for ideas is coupondivas.com.  Well hope you find some great deals this week without spending extra gas (do it as you are going) and too much time.  Let’s save some money!

Ecclesiastes 5:10

Whoever loves money never has money enough;

whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.

This too is meaningless.

If I can save $, you can too!

Okay, this was Rusty’s pay day so here we go.

Wal Mart – spent $185…saved $6 for 17 bags of groceries.    (Of course, the savings are much more because I choose the lowest price items of any store but that’s too much work for me to figure so I’ll just add the coupon savings today)

Bi-Lo Spent .40 and saved $8.00.  (Pretty exciting!)

Walgreens Spent $4.17 saved $10.15

Kroger Spent $52.97 for about 7 bags of groceries and 10 bottles of Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent at 38 loads a bottle, and a whole lot of pasta and more.  Saved $80.54!!  (Most exciting savings of the day!!)

I still have to pick up 2 free papers at Staples and 2 free bottles of Motrin PM at Rite Aid that I have rain checks for.

It was a very exciting grocery day to spend around $240 and save nearly $100!  Trust me if I can do it with my crazy schedule, you can too!!  Let’s save some money y’all!

Where your treasure is…there your heart will be also.

I was thinking back to the many sermons I’ve heard that revealed the nature of our heart by looking at our checkbook, ouch!  I found this children’s sermon that simplifies that teaching.  Enjoy 😀

Scripture: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12:34

I’m sure that most of you know what this is. It is a checkbook. You probably don’t have a checkbook, but your mom and dad do, and I am sure that you have seen them use it many times. Most of us don’t like to carry a lot of money around with us, so we put our money in the bank and when we need to buy something, we just write a check to pay for it. Now, it is very important to keep track of all of the checks we have written so that we don’t spend more money than we have in the bank. Every time I write a check, I write down in this checkbook who I wrote the check to and for how much money. That way I have a record of exactly how much money I have spent and how I spent it.You know, you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their checkbook. You can tell what is really important to a person by how they spend their money. Let’s look in my checkbook and see where I have written checks. Hmmm, here is one to the Pizza House and another to the Burger Shack. Here’s one to Joe’s Seafood Cafe, and another one to the Chinese Kitchen. In one brief look at my checkbook, you have learned two things about me. I love to eat, and I don’t like to cook. Yes, you can tell a lot about a person by reading their checkbook.

Jesus once said, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The heart is a symbol for love, isn’t it? So what Jesus was saying is that you can tell what a person really loves by what he treasures the most. How do you know what a person treasures the most? Do you ask them what the most important thing is in their life? No, there are two ways you can tell what is most important to a person. The first is how they spend their money and the second is how they spend their time.

If we say that we love God, but spend every cent we have on ourselves, do we love God or self? If we say that we love God, but we never spend any time with Him, do we really love Him? Jesus said that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. If we say that we love our neighbor but we never share what God has given us with them, do we really love our neighbor? You don’t learn what a person’s treasure is by asking them. You learn by watching how they spend their time and their money. Look at the things you spend your time and money on and then ask yourself, “What do I treasure? Where is my heart?”

Dear Jesus, help us to make sure that our heart is in the right place. Help us to show our love for you and for one another in the way we spend our time and our money. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

This Week’s Savings$$

This is not really my shopping week but I have decided to go back to weekly to see if I’ll save even more by hitting the weekly deals.  I was missing the weeks when I usually stocked up on cheese and a few other items that various stores cycle through.  This week I spent $39 and saved $51!  I had 10 bags of groceries.  I also hit Michael’s and spent ~$25 on Mother’s Day gifts.

Because we had a little extra due to our tax refund I also took the 40% coupon and got the candle melter I’ve been wanting for quite a bit…usually $25, spent $15.  Then I needed to return a cup for my sister at Bed Bath and Beyond and took in my $5 off coupon and found an electric meat slicer for $19.99 and spent $15 there.  I had my last one since we first got married over ~25 years ago now and it died a sad, unexpected death last month.  I waste so much bread with a regular knife.

I’m now leaving my office to head to Kroger.  If I buy 10 of their healthy Ronzoni noodles, they are on sale for .49 each!!  Which alone is exciting, but with my buy 2 get $1 off coupons I will get all 10 boxes for (drum roll please) FREE!  I’ll also get 10 more of their Annie’s Organic Pastas which are also for .49 each.  Which is usually around $2 each!!  It’s a great thing to put up for busy days when the munchkins need to make lunch without you.

Let’s have a great week and save some $$ guys!!

This Shopping Trip

We shopped at Kroger, Wal Mart, Publix, Sam’s, Rite Aide, and Tractor Supply.  We spent almost $300 and saved $65 not including the things that are just lower priced at Wal Mart and Sam’s.

It was a fun shopping day and felt great to save money.  It does take some time but it helps to hit southernsavers.com to take some of the work out of it.

My pantry is nicely stocked and I’m able to donate to a food pantry some extras.  It’s great!

Let’s save some money!
